Ik ben LUF-hoogleraar 'Botanische tuinen en botanie van Zuidoost-Azië' en prefect van de Hortus botanicus Leiden. Ik ben met name geïnteresseerd in de taxonomie, evolutie en verspreiding van bomenfamilies, vooral Annonaceae, Phyllanthaceae en Podocarpaceae.

Ik ben LUF-hoogleraar 'Botanische tuinen en botanie van Zuidoost-Azië' en prefect van de Hortus botanicus Leiden. Ik ben met name geïnteresseerd in de taxonomie, evolutie en verspreiding van bomenfamilies, vooral Annonaceae, Phyllanthaceae en Podocarpaceae.
Ook andere taxa worden onderzocht in verschillende samenwerkingsverbanden met collega's en studenten, vooral die waarvan de Hortus botanicus Leiden een rijke levende collectie heeft (bijv. Orchideeën, Vleesetende planten, Cycaden, Hoya, Dischidia etc.).
Daarnaast is stadsflora een groeiend interessegebied voor mij en wordt interdisciplinair onderzocht met ondersteuning van Citizen Science (stoepplanten/plantenblindheid) en mossen en korstmossen. We werken nauw samen met collega's van IBL, CML en Naturalis Biodiversity Center maar ook met buitenlandse universiteiten zoals Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, Universitas Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta en anderen.
