I am a LUF professor ‘Botanical Gardens and Botany of South East Asia’ and especially interested in the taxonomy, evolution and distribution of tree families, especially Annonaceae, Phyllanthaceae, and Podocarpaceae. Also other taxa are explored in various collaborations with colleagues and students, especially those of which the Hortus botanicus Leiden has a rich living collection of (e.g. Orchids, Carnivorous plants, Cycads, Hoya, Dischidia etc.).
Additionally, urban flora has been a growing field of interest to me and is investigated interdisciplinary with the support of Citizen Science (Pavement plants/plant blindness) and mosses and lichens. We work closely together with colleagues from IBL, CML and Naturalis Biodiversity Center but also universities abroad like Universitas Indonesia, Jakarta, Universitas Gajah Mada, Yogyakarta and others.
