What should you do in an emergency?

Emergency: life-threatening or urgent

Always call 112

Non-life-threatening emergency in our buildings (during office hours)

Call the emergency number for the building. This can be found on a sticker on your landline phone and/or computer monitor.

Suspicious situation, burglary or if someone is locked in outside opening hours

Phone the mobile surveillance unit if you see signs of burglary, broken glass, lights that shouldn’t be on, people who may be locked in or any other suspicious situations in and around our buildings. For all university buildings in Leiden and The Hague, call 06 26 97 50 16.

Cybersecurity incident

Report data breaches, phishing and other incidents to the ISSC Help Desk. They are available on workdays from 08:30 to 17:30 at 071 527 8888

Emergency number for students and staff abroad

Students and staff who are working or studying abroad can call our crisis phone number for help and advice in the event of an emergency: +31  71  5 27 66 66This phone number is available day and night.

Safe Science with WetenschapVeilig

Academics who join the public debate are increasingly targeted by threats, hate speech and intimidation. Leiden University takes this very seriously and will help you work out what you need to mitigate the risks and feel safe. You’ll also find information on the WetenschapVeilig website, an initiative of the Universities of the Netherlands (UNL) with the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Dutch Research Council (NWO).
