Scholars for Scholars Leiden
The aim of the Scholars for Scholars Fund is to build a sustainable support infrastructure at Leiden University for researchers affected by war and unrest.
Crowdfunding
Science thrives on freedom, safety, and stability. Therefore, Scholars for Scholars Leiden wants to offer a safe haven to academics beyond our borders who are threatened, persecuted or forced to flee. As this requires funds, Scholars for Scholars partners with the Leiden University Fund (LUF) in running a crowdfunding campaign to raise enough money to help at least one scholar at risk to stay in Leiden for one year.
Long-term goal
The fund’s long-term goal is to establish a permanent structure that supports sustainable education and research opportunities for scholars at risk, enabling them to contribute to academia, benefiting both them and host institutions. Through mutual learning and cooperation, this approach helps protect fundamental rights and uphold academic freedom, for scholars at risk and, ultimately, for society as a whole.
Activities
Scholars for Scholars Leiden involves more than just fundraising. It actively contributes to raising awareness of threats to academic freedom, collaborates closely with UAF and the wider Scholars at Risk Network, and is supported by a network of ambassadors who advocate for its mission. Anyone who wishes to contribute is welcome, be it through donations, becoming a fundraiser, or serving as an ambassador.
