Your space to relax and connect in Leiden and The Hague 

Need a break from studying? Looking for a cozy spot to meet friends or just unwind? The Humanities Living Rooms in Leiden and The Hague are here for you! As part of a Faculty of Humanities' wellbeing initiative, these spaces are designed to help students and staff feel at home, relax, and connect with others in a welcoming environment.

The Humanities Living Rooms offer a casual and comfortable setting where you can recharge.

What you’ll find in the Humanities Living Rooms

  • Plant Swap Corner – Take a plant cutting to liven up your room or contribute one for someone else to enjoy.
  • Board Games & Activities – Challenge your friends to a game of chess or take part in a lively round of UNO!
  • ‘Free Stuff’ Cabinet – Browse donated items, pick up something useful, or leave something for others—sustainability and community in action!
  • A Cozy & Welcoming Atmosphere – Whether you need a quiet moment alone or a friendly conversation, this space is for you. 

The Humanities Living Rooms are open during regular faculty hours—feel free to stop by whenever you need a break!

Where are the Living Rooms?

You can reserve the Living Rooms in Leiden if you are organising a social activity. Send an email to studentwellbeing@hum.leidenuniv.nl to make your reservation.

Take a break in the Sensory Room

A quiet space for relaxation, reflection, and self-care

Are you feeling overwhelmed, overstimulated, or just in need of a moment to yourself? The Sensory Room is here for you.

This calming space is open to students and staff and offers a peaceful environment where you can:

  • Unwind and process sensory input
  • Try audio guided mindfulness or breathing exercises
  • Practice yoga
  • Rest on a daybed

Location: Lipsius 1.38

Please note: you need a LU-card to access the room.
