Company Law and Financial Law

The Department of Company Law and Financial Law provides education and conducts research in areas including company and corporate law, financial contract- and liability law, corporate governance, sustainability, Dutch and EU financial regulatory law, mergers and acquisitions, insolvency law, and international business law.

Company law is deeply embedded in society and must keep pace with societal developments. Our focus is on the regulation of companies and persons working together under corporate law, the various interests a company faces, and adequate rules for companies in difficulties. In our approach, we maintain an open mind and a strong focus on developments in legal practice, such as in the area of corporate governance, corporate litigation, mergers and acquisitions, international business law, restructuring and sustainability.

Within the Department of Company Law and Financial Law, the Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law focuses on financial law in the broad sense. This approach includes the functioning and supervision of the financial markets, finance transactions, integrity, payment systems, duties of care in the banking sector, sustainable finance, digitalisation and liability in the financial sector. Another key characteristic of the Hazelhoff Centre for Financial Law is a strong focus on the international dimension of financial law. This focus is vital to keep in pace with the increasingly globalised financial markets.
