Master’s students learn negotiation tips from the professionals
Workshop
What negotiation techniques can you use to strike a win-win deal for your client? What can you do before and during negotiations to make communication more effective?
These and other questions were answered and put into practice during an interactive workshop on negotiation skills for students of the Master's in Financial Law and the Advanced Master's in International Financial Law.
Practical experience
The workshop was given by professionals in the field: Roderik Vrolijk, Maarten Weekenborg, Jeanne Leeman and Tim Hop from the law firm Stibbe. Students had the chance to practise their negotiation skills – essential in the world of financial transactions – under the guidance of lawyers who work in this field every day.
Negotiation techniques
During the workshop, various negotiation techniques were explored, with a special focus on the principles of the Harvard Negotiation Method. The students then had the chance to put the theory to the test. Working in teams, they competed against each other in a simulated international contract negotiation. Each team acted as lawyers representing a client in drafting the contract, working together to reaching a deal.
After the workshop, drinks were enjoyed together at café Barrera.
