Teaching in bachelor’s programmes

The Department of Company Law and Financial Law is involved in the bachelor’s specialisations Rechtsgeleerdheid (Law) and International Business Law. For example, we teach in the course Onderneming en Recht (Business and Law) in the regular Law programme and various courses in the English-taught bachelor’s specialisation International Business Law.

Teaching in master’s programmes

The Department of Company Law and Financial Law is responsible for the master’s programmes Ondernemingsrecht (Company Law), Recht en Bedrijfskunde (Law and Business Administration) and Financieel recht (Financial Law). These programmes are specialisations offered within the master’s degree programme Rechtsgeleerdheid (Law).

Master’s programme Ondernemingsrecht

The master’s Ondernemingsrecht (Company Law) offers students a broad understanding of company law. In addition, students can specialise further in the law of legal entities and corporations, mergers and acquisitions, intellectual property law or insolvency law. The various options offer students the freedom to choose their preferred mix of topics.

Master’s programme Financieel recht

In the master’s Financieel recht students gain an insight into financial regulation and are trained to become broadly oriented legal professionals. Financial law is very much an area where different aspects of both private and public law come together and interact with each other. This master's programme also focuses on international aspects of financial law, which are essential due to the strong global interconnectedness of the financial markets. European law and the influences of Anglo-American law are extensively discussed in the courses.

Master’s Recht en Bedrijfskunde

The master’s Recht en Bedrijfskunde (Law & Business Administration) offers courses that combine knowledge and skills related to law and business administration. The programme is geared to students who like an interdisciplinary approach. Not only do we study legal theory, we also discuss relevant business knowledge, literature and skills. Students learn about the issues at the interface of law and business administration.

Advanced master's programmes

The Department of Company Law and Financial Law teaches in two advanced master’s programmes: Law & Finance and International Civil and Commercial Law.

Law & Finance

The Advanced Master’s programme Law & Finance focuses on the intersection of the financial world and the law. This master's programme addresses complex, international and multidisciplinary issues in financial law, combining both economic and legal perspectives. There is also a special focus on sustainability, ethics in the financial sector, and the impact of digital innovations on financial law.

International Civil and Commercial Law

The department teaches the course International Corporate Law within the advanced master’s programme International Civil and Commercial Law and International Insolvency Law. This course focuses on the insolvency law and corporate law of different jurisdictions from a comparative law perspective. Topics such as corporate restructuring, cross-border insolvency proceedings, corporate governance, international sustainability regulations and mergers and acquisitions are included.

Postacademic education

The Department of Company Law and Financial Law department offers a wide range of Postacademic education, including specialisation courses, one-day seminars on current affairs and various symposia.
