After your PhD

PhD candidates are encouraged to start thinking about their future careers well before the defence of their thesis.

Most Leiden PhD graduates (about 60 to 70 per cent) will find a job outside academia. The majority successfully embark on a career in education, administration, heritage, journalism, or business. Other PhD graduates find employment in an academic or semi-academic environment. In Archaeology, a considerable number generally manage to gain a postdoctoral position.
