PhD Committee

CML has its very own PhD committee!

Introduction

The main focus of the PhD Committee is to organize activities to foster social cohesion, personal development, and well-being for the PhDs, postdocs, research assistants, and lab technicians working at CML. We aim to offer a safe space for everyone to interact with their colleagues and build a supportive community. The PhD Committee organizes monthly PhDrinks, coffee-and-cake breaks, and a variety of social and academic events throughout the year. These include sports days, mental health workshops, academic writing weekends, career events, movie nights, scavenger hunts, bike tours, and many more.

Beyond organizing social and academic activities, the PhD Committee also represents and communicates on behalf of the PhD community within the institute. We act as a voice towards the CML Management Team (MT), the CML Institute Council (IC), the CML Office Management (OM), the CML PhD Quality and Monitoring team (PhD Q&M), or any other group of CML staff. The PhD Committee also represents and communicates on behalf of the PhD community outside the institute, for example, towards the Faculty Council of Science (FC), the Faculty Council of the Graduate School of Science, other university councils, student associations (e.g., SHIFT, GOSSA, the LGBT+ Network of Leiden University), or the Faculty of Science’s Confidential Councilor for PhD Candidates (if needed).
