Professional Experience

Hazem obtained his BSc degree in Civil Engineering in Egypt specializing in Infrastructure with a focus on environmental systems. After three years of market experience as an Engineer, he pursued his MSc degree in Environmental Engineering at Politecnico di Milano where he graduated with cum laude in April 2021. Throughout his master’s studies, Hazem developed a keen interest in Life Cycle Thinking and its applications in solid waste management field. In his master’s thesis he collaborated with the international committee of the red cross (ICRC) and Coventry University where he applied LCA on waste management systems of ICRC to support its sustainability goals. His last research work was under FineFuture Horizon Europe 2020 project in which he and his fellow researchers conducted a sustainability assessment of an emerging technology for minerals recovery from fine mining deposits. Hazem was also a teaching assistant in the Life Cycle Thinking course taught at Politecnico di Milano.

Research topic: Hazem is working under a new Horizon Europe project called “TranSensus” aiming at developing a European consensus on a new Life Cycle Assessment framework to be applied in Electric vehicles (EV) sector in order to facilitate a responsible transition to road electrification where all stakeholders can calculate, monitor, communicate, and make decisions starting from a common ground.
