Pieter ter Keurs is emeritus hoogleraar Musea, Collecties en Samenleving. Hij is tevens academisch directeur van het LDE Centre for Global Heritage and Development. Ter Keurs is gespecialiseerd in critical museum studies en material culture studies.

Pieter ter Keurs hoogleraar Museums, Collections and Society aan de faculteiten Geesteswetenschappen en Archeologie.
Van 2003 tot 2009 was Pieter ter Keurs conservator bij Museum Volkenkunde, waar hij onderzoek deed naar de geschiedenis van de koloniale collectie. Hij was verantwoordelijk voor de samenwerking met Indonesië, met name met het Nationaal Museum in Jakarta. Ter Keurs deed veldwerk in Papoea Nieuw-Guinea en Indonesië (1983/84) en het Enggano eiland in Indonesië (1994).
Onderzoek
Ter Keurs is gespecialiseerd in materiële cultuurstudies gericht op de kritische analyses van verzamelen en de geschiedenis van musea en cultureel erfoed. Momenteel is hij betrokken bij onderzoek naar Nederlandse Mediterane collecties uit de negentiende eeuw en de opvattingen over antiquiteiten in Nederland.
