Podcast and Livestream Studio
The Podcast & Livestream Studio in Huizinga 0.12 is a dedicated space equipped with modern recording technology, enabling students to create professional recordings for (live) audio broadcasts.
Through podcasts and livestreams, students engage with course material in a new way, emphasizing science communication and collaboration. Skills developed at the faculty, such as critical thinking, analysis, and reflection, can be shared with a broader audience via podcasts and livestreams. Support and advice are available for instructors interested in incorporating podcasts or livestreams into their teaching.
How the Studio works:
Email digital-lab@hum.leidenuniv.nl asking for the Podcast Studio link and stating the LU Faculty that you are a student at. Depending on your faculty and studio availability, we will either email you the online booking link or give further instructions. If you are LU staff, contact us for the online booking link.
Once you have chosen and booked a timeslot, you will receive a booking confirmation via email, and a second email, 15 min before your booked timeslot. This second email will ask you to log in to a doc with an access code. This code will open the keybox next to the studio - use the keycard inside for access.
If you need instruction further to the written instructions, choose Tuesday's, Thursday's and Friday's and a lab assistant (you can likely find them in the digital lab or 0.08) can briefly show you how to record your podcast at the beginning of your session.
If you cannot use your timeslot after all, please email and cancel your booking so it is available for other users.
These are the basic podcasting recording instructions, and a copy of these will be in the studio.
- The desktop computer and sound mixer will be switched on for you (If not, then switch on the computer, then the RODE Pro Mixer, then open the Audition template).
- Please do not move the tables, mixer, computer screens, and mic stands from their position! This can loosen cables or mic stands and cause problems for the following studio users.
- Rename the Audition template with your own file name to the desktop. Record your podcast to this file on the desktop computer (for smooth recording), and remember to bring a USB stick. Transfer your recording to the USB stick to take away with you. Make sure you don't remove the template from the desktop!
- We do not keep saved recordings more than a week.
- Please leave the equipment switched on for the next user when you leave. Leave the studio tidy. Ensure the keycard is returned to the keybox, the keybox closed, and code scrambled.
Use the digital-lab@hum.leidenuniv.nl email for any questions you may have.
Podcasting for teaching or research:
Please contact ECOLe to discuss the options specifically designed for teaching. For research purposes, you should contact the Digital Lab.
