Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges (BA/BSc)

Admission requirements

In order to be admissible to LUC’s Liberal Arts & Sciences programme, you need to meet certain requirements. Please view the Diploma, English and Mathematics requirements below.

LUC The Hague is an honours programme of Leiden University and therefore additional diploma requirements apply. Please view the general admission requirements of Leiden University as well as the additional requirements for LUC on this list here.

If your diploma is not on the list, please contact the Admissions Office to inquire about your specific admission requirements before you apply. If you meet the admission requirements for Leiden University, but not the additional ones stated for LUC The Hague, you can still submit an application for our programme. Please note that in this case you have a lower chance to be selected.

LUC offers an English taught programme and all applicants need to be proficient in English. English test results may not be more than two years old and LUC accepts the following:

  • IELTS: Academic with overall score of 7.0
    • We do not accept IELTS General Training or IELTS Indicator
    • We are not yet able to accept the new IELTS online
  • TOEFL: Internet based with overall score of 100
    • We do not accept the following types of test: TOEFL My Best ™ scores (multiple test scores combined), TOEFL Essentials™  or institutional tests such as ITP.
    • We can accept TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition™ or TOEFL IBT Paper Edition™ in the following situations only:
      • You are applying for a programme starting in Feb 2023, or
      • You took the test before 1 Sept 2022 (& it is not more than 2 years old), or
      • You are unable to take an in-person test on location because test centres in your region are closed due to COVID or inaccessible due to unsafe conditions.
  • Cambridge English Exam C2 Proficiency or C1 Advanced with overall score of 185

Chinese students who need a Nuffic certificate should either take an IELTS or TOEFL internet-based test.

Certain diploma’s and/or English grades exempt students from taking one of the approved English proficiency tests. Please view the exceptions in this list.

LUC offers a Liberal Arts and Sciences programme and all students are expected to have a general understanding of mathematics. The minimum mathematics proficiency requirements are stated in this list.

Please note that meeting this requirement does not mean your mathematics skills are sufficient nor do they guarantee success in LUC’s mathematics course. We advise you to review the mathematics course content in the e-prospectus to assess whether you have the required skills to pass this course. A good way to prepare for the mathematics course at LUC is to take the Online OMPT-A Math test or Boswell-Bèta Mathematics A course.

If you cannot meet the mathematics requirement, but are confident that your skills are sufficient after checking the e-prospectus, you will be required to demonstrate this by taking a mathematics diagnostic exam at the start of the academic year if you are selected for LUC. Please view the information regarding the mathematics diagnostic exam here.
