About the project
Coordinated by Vivian Kraaij and Nadia Garnefski, Leiden University and the University of Botswana have launched a collaborative project focused on improving access to online mental health care in Botswana through joint education, training and research. The partnership combines Leiden University's expertise in digital mental health interventions with University of Botswana's knowledge of local needs and contexts.
A key goal is to build sustainable capacity in e-mental health by developing a joint online course for advanced Bachelor's and Master's students, fostering intercultural learning and knowledge exchange between both institutions. The collaboration also includes the co-creation of research projects and the supervision of a new PhD project on e-mental health at the University of Botswana.
By strengthening expertise, research and digital innovation, the partners aim to contribute to reducing the mental health treatment gap in Botswana and to create knowledge that may eventually benefit other low- and middle-income countries.
