Joint PhDs Leiden-Pretoria
In May 2026, Assistant Professor Mark Roelands from Leiden University visited the University of Pretoria. He talks about his activities and the reason for his visit.
"During my visit to Pretoria in 2026, made possible thanks to the Erasmus+ ICM mobility project, I was able to discuss the progress and help with the further development of two projects for joint PhD degrees between Leiden and Pretoria. Both students are initially based in Pretoria and additionally also have the financial resources now to visit Leiden for six months in order to work with their supervisor in Leiden.
In the pictures below, one of the PhD candidates, Tomas Chamberlain (the second candidate is currently enjoying his six month visit to Leiden), and all the Pretoria supervisors of both projects are present. In the pictures we are discussing the Mathematics for both projects. In particular, how to prove a representation theorem for Banach lattice modules over a Dedekind complete unital f-algebra with a strong unit."
