Carolien Stolte is gespecialiseerd in de geschiedenis van Zuid-Azië in breed regionaal perspectief. Haar huidige project, "Zuiderroute: Indiase activisten en de Afro-Aziatische beweging in de vroege Koude Oorlog" wordt gefinancierd door een NWO VENI beurs (2018-2022). Stolte is tevens hoofdredacteur van Itinerario (Cambridge University Press) en de boekenserie Global Connections (Leiden University Press). Stolte was postdoctoraal onderzoeker aan Harvard University met een Niels Stensen Fellowship (2014-2015) en bestuurslid bij de World History Association (2016-2019). In 2020 ontving zij een Early Career Award van de KNAW.
