When submitting your online application for study abroad or exchange, you will apply for individual courses and in this way create your own programme.
After you submit your application, your academic background will be assessed for each specific course you wish to register for. Once you have been admitted to enough courses to register as a full-time student, your application for admission to Leiden University can be accepted. Your International Programmes Officer and Faculty Coordinator(s) will tell you more about this as they process your application.
The application process in 6 short steps:
- Select your courses from the broad range on offer
For information on how to do so visit the Study options page.
- Submit your online application
Make sure you have indicated your course selection and included all the required documents, including a nomination form signed by your home university coordinator.
- Receive a confirmation of receipt email
You may be asked to provide additional documents if something is missing.
- Your file will be forwarded to the faculty
The faculty will evaluate your file. If you are applying for courses at multiple departments/faculties, your file will be assessed by each department/faculty. We will contact you as soon as a decision has been reached.
- Receive your admission offer
The admission offer will tell you exactly which courses you have been accepted for. This letter also contains information on accommodation and, if applicable, immigration requirements.
- Respond to the admission offer
Complete the form in the offer letter, then sign, scan and send this form back via email to confirm your participation in the programme.
How long will it take to process my application?
About six weeks for complete applications, although please bear in mind that processing times vary. You can keep track of your admission status via the online application system. If several weeks pass without any updates in your online application, please contact us.
Course registration / student registration
After you have accepted your offer, you will be officially registered as a student in uSis, Leiden University’s student registration system. Following this you will receive your Leiden University account details (ULCN) via email.
Once you arrive you will also need to be registered in uSis for the courses you have been admitted to. The uSis course registration process for exchange and study abroad students varies between faculties. We will provide you with detailed instructions specific to each faculty. Please do not try to register in any courses in uSis until you have received this information. Read more about course registration.
