As an alumnus you can continue to use your ULCN account.

Alumni that have graduated after 31 August 2006 can continue to use their ULCN-account. The username will remain the same, but the password has to be updated every once in a while.

Sixty days after graduation the student account is converted to an alumnus account. Alumni with an alumnus account can continue to use the Library of Leiden University, log in for the tests and job search engine of the LU Career Zone and use the university workplaces. But it is no longer possible to use the Wi-Fi facilities on other universities (through Eduroam) and also services like Surfspot and Blackboard are no longer accessible.

Have you graduated before 31 August 2006 and would you like to use a service that requires an ULCN-account?
By showing your ID and a proof of graduation (the diploma for example), you may apply for a guest account at one of the library desks of the the Leiden University Libraries (UBL). For questions about guest accounts, please contact the UBL.

Please note: as an alumnus it's no longer possible to use the wifi-facilities on other universities (via Eduroam). Also services like Surfspot and Blackboard are not accessible for alumni.

The registration of PhD-graduates works differently than the registration of students. At the moment, only PhD-graduates that have been registered as a student during their PhD-track (and who have had a ULCN-account and student number), can obtain an alumnus account. In general we can say:

PhD-graduates who started their PhD-track between October 2006 and January 2015 don't get an alumnus account automatically, but can request an account by sending an e-mail to info@alumni.leidenuniv.nl. Please note that you will need to be able to provide your student number.

PhD-graduates who started their PhD-track before October 2006 or in January 2015 or later unfortunately can't get an alumnus account at the moment. They can request a Leiden University Libraries guest account to continue using the library services.

Forgotten your password?

You can reset your password via Account Services if you have forgotten it. However, this is only possible if you have used the correct settings for your account:

  • You have registered a non-university email address or mobile telephone number
  • You have set up an authenticator app

If you have complied with all of these points, you can now reset your password without the intervention of a  helpdesk. If you are unable to use Account Self Service, you can ask for a new password by contacting the ISSC Helpdesk via +31 71 527 8888 or helpdesk@issc.leidenuniv.nl

Multi-factor authentication (MFA)

To log into many university systems you now need to use Multi-factor authentication (MFA). This means that as well as entering your username and password, you also need to confirm your identity via an additional method. Find out how to set up MFA for your account on this page
