FGGA members for Young Academy Leiden
The Young Academy Leiden (YAL) is an initiative of the Leiden members of The Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences. It fits very well with the recommendations issued by the working group Rankings and Toptalent last year in their report on academic excellence and talent management at Leiden University.
The YAL offers its members a platform to widen their scope beyond the boundaries of their own disciplines and together develop a vision on science and science policy at Leiden University and also to develop activities for other young Leiden researchers and for a wider audience. The members will be inducted at the beginning of 2019.
The Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs is well represented with three colleagues in the YAL:
Joris Larik: Assistant Professor of Comparative, EU, and International Law. He is an expert in EU external relations, comparative foreign relations law, global governance, and the external ramifications of Brexit.
Sarah Giest: Assistant Professor Public Administration. She specializes in public policy analysis focusing on policy instruments and capacity in the innovation, technology and sustainability realm.
Olaf van Vliet: Professor in Economics and Public Administration. His research and teaching interests include comparative political economy, welfare state reform, income inequality, globalization, European integration and labor economics.
The YAL’s first activity will take place in the spring of 2019, as part of the Leiden University 444-year celebrations. The members will take the opportunity to present their reseachs plans. The selection committee was comprised of Annemieke Aartsma-Rus (LUMC), Lenneke Alink (Social and Behavioural Sciences), and Quentin Bourgeois (Archeology) and has selected 13 members for the YAL out of the 27 nominated candidates.
