Liberal Arts and Sciences: Global Challenges (BA/BSc) - Leiden University College
Gespecialiseerd in Earth, Energy & Sustainability?

“After graduating LUC I jumped straight into a Master's as I knew I wanted to further deepen my knowledge and explore the area of IR that really fascinated me: public and cultural diplomacy. LUC's diverse and progressive curriculum had introduced me early to theories and concepts often only found in Master programmes, and I found myself well-prepared compared to my classmates. While doing my Master's I undertook an internship with Oxfam Novib before landing a traineeship at the European Parliament. The last two years I have been working at the European Parliament's Secretariat on equality and inclusion policies. An LUC education is as much about the skills honed as the knowledge gained, something that has become clear to me as I started my career. LUC pushed us to be versatile and highly adaptable, to quickly familiarise ourselves with a topic and produce high quality work. All traits that are highly attractive to an employer and have helped ease the transition into working life.”

"I graduated from LUC with a set goal in mind: I wanted to work before starting a Master's degree. I couldn't have made a better decision. I got an internship in the Embassy of Spain in Jakarta, Indonesia. I believe LUC's interdisciplinary curriculum prepared me for this job in the sense that I had to resort to concepts from my first year International Law class, employ terminology from my second year Economics' class or apply IR theories from a 3rd year course to understand Spanish-Indonesian diplomatic relations. LUC essentially laid the foundation for allowing me to pursue my internship successfully in different areas of the Embassy."

"Graduating LUC in the winter of 2017, I was very motivated to gain some practical experience before pursuing a master’s degree in the fall. I was lucky enough to spend the following six months interning at the Royal Norwegian Consulate General in Murmansk, Russia. LUC had prepared me well for this, and especially my International Justice major and capstone came into direct use as I assisted with organising seminars and writing reports related to Arctic cooperation, shipping, fisheries and indigenous people. As my time in Murmansk further triggered my interest for political science and diplomacy, I reconsidered my initial plan of doing an LLM and decided to pursue a dual master’s degree in International Security between Sciences Po in Paris and MGIMO in Moscow. LUC’s interdisciplinary nature was really key in allowing me to make this change, and shows that you really have the privilege of choice thanks to the robust, interdisciplinary programme that LUC offers."
