Rob G.H.H. Nelissen is hoogleraar Orthopedie en afdelingshoofd Orthopaedie (Orthopedie, Revalidatiegeneeskunde en Fysiotherapie) van het Leids Universitair Medisch Centrum (LUMC). Daarnaast is hij Medical Delta hoogleraar, verbonden TU Delft (vakgroep Biomechanical Engineering). Rob studeerde Geneeskunde en promoveerde in Leiden. De titel van zijn proefschrift (promotores Rozing / Brand) was: ‘Fundamental aspects of the clinical evaluation of total joint prosthesis’. Na zijn opleiding tot orthopedisch chirurg (Leiden) deed hij een total joint fellowship in de VS (UCLA en Toledo). In 1994 werd hij staflid op de afdeling Orthopaedie LUMC. In 2000 werd hij plaatsvervangend opleider. In 2005 werd hij hoogleraar Experimentele Orthopedie, de titel van zijn oratie was Migratie=Integratie. In 2006 werd hij opleider en afdelingshoofd Orthopedie. In 2016 werd hij Medical Delta hoogleraar, de titel van de oratie op de TUDelft was: Smart Implant Surgery. Medical Delta adds! Hij is mede-oprichter, later voorzitter (2007-2021) van de Landelijke Registratie Orthopedische Implantaten (LROI, www.LROI.nl). Een kwaliteits- en traceerbaarheidsregister van orthopedische implantaten (2024: > 1.2 milj implantaten, 99% compleetheid) en patiënt uitkomsten (PROM). 2023 voorzitter van de Registratie Advies Raad van de LROI. Oprichter van NORE (Network of Orthopaedic Registries of Europe), een EFORT commissie (European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology) 2014-2018 (vice)voorzitter van de Nederlandse Orthopaedische Vereniging (NOV). Initiator zorgevaluatie onderzoek binnen de orthopedie (CORE: COllaboration in Research, instellen leerstoel zorgevaluatie Orthopedie).
