eLaw onderzoekt de rol van het recht in de informatiemaatschappij: hoe kan het recht bijdragen aan een goede werking van informatie- en communicatietechnologie, en het gebruik ervan door burgers, bedrijven en overheden?

Technology changes society. The internet, computers, smartphones, persuasive technologies, the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), autonomous systems, and robotics challenge the law and how we interact with this world unprecedentedly. They raise questions about their governance, can promote and threaten long-held fundamental values and rights, such as the right to privacy, safety, or dignity, and, often, it is unclear to what extent they are beneficial for us and this planet.
Technology can effectively prevent cybercrime, empower vulnerable users to participate in society, and bridge gaps and divides if used adequately. If not used according to legitimate procedures, technology can impede government accountability, violate fundamental rights, and be the worst of anyone's nightmares. These and many other questions still do not have an answer, unfortunately. What's worse: many of these questions remain silent because impacts, risks, and opportunities are unknown to many.
In this course, we will learn how technology affects society from the legal and regulatory lenses. We will help you navigate some of the most pressing questions concerning cybersecurity, privacy, emotions, fairness arising from the use and deployment of technology.

Registration and admission
For the eLaw course, we are on the lookout for 25 students who are itching to dive into the depths of knowledge about law, technology, and society. We want to know what gets your heart racing about this mind-blowing intersection. Why do you find it so fascinating and important? Any specific topics that pique your curiosity?
Don't sweat it, if you don't have prior knowledge. We welcome everyone, who is in their 4th, 5th, and 6th year. But if you have been involved in any activity related to law, technology, and/or society— inside or outside of school —let us know. Your experiences can bring a whole new dimension to our class.
And, if there's anything else you would like to share with the selection committee, go ahead. Your voice matters!
