Redefining our vision on teaching and learning

In a rapidly changing world it is crucial that our teaching keeps pace with the dynamics of society.

Our vision on teaching and learning Learning@LeidenUniversity was launched in 2017. It sets out our objectives in educating our students and the demands this places on the curriculum and the learning environment. This vision formulates eight ambitions that are closely interwoven with one another. A lot has changed over the past five years. Covid has had a major impact on teaching and learning, resulting in more attention being paid to digitalisation and student well-being. As part of this move towards increasing digitalisation, we also see the emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) in education. There is, in addition, a growing need for more interdisciplinary working, along with a movement towards greater flexibility, more inclusive education and life-long learning. One of the key ambitions in our strategic plan is to continue to work on future-proof student development (Ambition 3, Leiden University Strategic Plan Innovating and Connecting). Innovation in education is a dynamic and continuous process, and it is essential that we adapt to current developments. This explains why we are revisiting our vision on teaching and learning.

What do we want to achieve?

Our aim with this revision is to formulate a vision on teaching and learning that both incorporates the steps we have taken in recent years to achieve our ambitions, and that also includes new themes and developments emerging within society. This will give us an updated vision for the future of teaching and learning that will allow us to prepare our students optimally for the challenges of tomorrow.

Dialogue on teaching and learning

During this process we will be inviting staff and students to play an active part in the dialogue on specific themes. Your insights and experiences are highly valuable and will serve as input for the revised vision on teaching and learning. Let’s work together to shape the future of our education and build on a vision that is not only inspiring, but that also prepares our students for the challenges facing them.

Planning

The revised vision on teaching and learning will be launched in 2025. We will work together on redefining the vision over the coming year. During the process we will keep you informed of progress and developments via different channels.
