Gert Jan Geertjes is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of Leiden University. Since 1 September 2015, he has also been a member of the Faculty Council.

Gert Jan holds law degrees from the University of Groningen (Legal Research Master, 2012) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LLM, 2013). In 2020, he completed his PhD thesis entitled Staatsrecht en conventie in Nederland en het Verenigd Koninkrijk (Law and Convention in the Constitutions of the Netherlands and the United Kingdom), which he will defend in 2021 at Leiden University.


Gert Jan teaches various courses in constitutional law, including Principles of the Democratic Rechtsstaat for first year students (Beginselen van de democratische rechtsstaat) and Constitutional Law in a European Context for master students (Constitutionele vraagstukken in Europese Context). In addition, he supervises LLB and LLM Theses on topics related to constitutional law.
