Background

Gert Jan Geertjes holds law degrees from the University of Groningen (Legal Research Master, 2012), the London School of Economics and Political Science (LLM, 2013) and Leiden University (PhD, 2021)

Research

The research of Gert Jan Geertjes focuses on Dutch and comparative constitutional law in general. He is particularly interested in the divide between ‘law and politics’, debates on constitutional change and methodological questions surrounding constitutional law.

Teaching

Gert Jan Geertjes teaches various courses in constitutional law, including Principles of the Democratic Rechtsstaat for first year students (Beginselen van de democratische rechtsstaat) and Constitutional Law in a European Context for master students (Constitutionele vraagstukken in Europese Context). In addition, he supervises LLB and LLM Theses on topics related to constitutional law.
