Mayor Krikke and Rector Magnificus Stolker to be presented with leadership agenda

What is public leadership? How does one promote research on public leadership? These and other questions will be addressed at the official presentation of the research and development agenda ‘Moving forward with public leadership’ on Wednesday 11 April. Mayor of The Hague Pauline Krikke and Rector Magnificus of Leiden University Carel Stolker will be presented with the agenda, and an expert jury will announce which project will be carried out in 2018.

In the 2017 project Leadership Crossing Boundaries, academics and practitioners at the Leiden Leadership Centre (LLC) addressed important questions concerning public leadership. The new agenda for research and development took shape in workgroups and an interactive conference. This agenda will form the basis of innovative projects and sustainable partnerships in the field of public leadership. The Municipality of The Hague and Leiden Leiden University will both fund the research.

Jury

The jury comprises:

  • Simone Roos: Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations, Director General of Government Organisation at the ABD (Dutch Senior Civil Service)
  • Peter Hennephof, Town Clerk, The Hague
  • Gerard Bakker, Chair of the Board of COA (the Central Agency for the Reception of Asylum Seekers) and VOM’s ‘ 2017 Government Manager of the Year’.

The jury has been asked to evaluate the plans in the agenda and to select the most promising project. Funding from the Municipality of The Hague will make it possible to carry out the winning project in 2018. With this project, the LLC will once again research an important question relating to leadership but will focus its attention on developing practical knowledge and skills.

Programma

The agenda will be presented by Sandra Groeneveld and Ben Kuipers, researchers at the Institute of Public Administration and the LLC. After the agenda has been presented to Pauline Krikke and Carel Stolker, the jury will announce the winning project. A reception will be held afterwards.

Leiden Leadership Centre

The Leiden Leadership Centre of Leiden University in The Hague directs its efforts on research, teaching and leadership development. It is a continuous learning and development platform for the leaders of today and the future that gives them the opportunity to experiment with viewing and approaching things differently.

The LLC seeks to find new ways to shape the role played by a leader faced with complex issues. It does this with an eye to both the present and the future, taking an interdisciplinary and international approach. It partners with academics and experts in the field of public leadership and works at the interface between theory and practice.
