About NIMAR
The institute is funded by the Ministries of Education, Culture and Science and of Foreign Affairs and by Leiden University. To safeguard the institute’s independence and interests in Morocco, it is part of the Netherlands Embassy in Rabat under Moroccan law. The institute performs its tasks under the responsibility of Leiden University.

Advisory Board
An advisory board (Maatschappelijke Raad van Advies or MAR) supports the NIMAR director in his work. Given NIMAR’s social responsibilities, representatives from various social sectors sit on the board.

- Ms Ingrid van Engelshoven (Advisor, Blueyard; former Minister of Education, Culture and Science), Vice-Chair
- Dr Zohra Acherrat (Psychiatrist at FPC de Oostvaarderskliniek and Chair, Stichting Vrouwen Activiteiten Centrum)
- Mr Dirk Jan Nieuwenhuis (Ambassador of the Netherlands to Morocco)
- Prof. Dr Marjo Buitelaar (Professor of Contemporary Islam, University of Groningen)
- Mr Ali Eddaoudi (Former Head of Islamic Chaplaincy, Netherlands Armed Forces)
- Mr Ron Bormans MA (Former President of the Executive Board, Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences)
