Netherlands Institute Morocco

The Netherlands Institute in Morocco (NIMAR) is an institute of the Faculty of Humanities of Leiden University, with a nationwide remit, located in Rabat, Morocco. NIMAR has four tasks.

Education

NIMAR offers undergraduate programmes for all students from Dutch universities and universities of applied sciences, divided over two semesters. During these programmes, students become acquainted with the languages, cultures, religions and societies of Morocco, the Arab world and West Africa from a unique, interdisciplinary perspective. NIMAR’s expertise covers the humanities and social sciences in a broad sense.

Research

NIMAR facilitates and stimulates research and cooperation between the Netherlands, Morocco and, where relevant, third countries, primarily within the domain of the humanities and social sciences, but also actively seeks collaboration with other disciplines. The institute is a hub in an international network of researchers and partners, and the Dutch higher education sector.

Library

NIMAR provides Dutch collection development in the field of Morocco, North Africa and the Middle East for Leiden University Libraries. The library also offers students and affiliated researchers a quiet place to study and work.

Impact

NIMAR activates and stimulates cultural and academic exchange with Morocco and the region for, among others, government organisations, businesses, NGOs and Dutch cultural sector.
