One of the unique points of this master programme is the opportunity to work from home during the online weeks. Each course takes four weeks, of which only one is on campus. You get to learn and grow together with fellow students during the intensive on campus week, and work from home during the online weeks. This gives you the opportunity to learn at your own place and time, but be aware that this is a full time study that requires due effort. Learn more about the programme structure here.
International environment
Because of its worldwide relevance, the Master Population Health Management is designed as an international programme, based on the global nature of the scientific field of Population Health Management and directed at an international student population. You can broaden your view of the world and quickly develop a large international network, especially during the second year in which you can create your own individualized programme. There is also the opportunity to spend a part of your studies in Birmingham, as part of our combined master programme.
Interdisciplinary staff
One of the main pillars of the programme is interdisciplinarity. True interdisciplinarity is reached by the strong collaboration between the Faculty of Medicine/LUMC on the one hand and the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs (known for their interdisciplinary approach), The Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences (a leading international centre for research and teaching closely connected with society) and the Faculty of Science (aims to benefit science and to make a contribution to addressing the major societal challenges of the future) on the other hand.
Student experiences
Alistair Schofield
Bachelor Physiotherapy | PHM student

My bachelor’s degree is in Physiotherapy and whilst I enjoyed this experience, I found myself wanting to understand more about the macro perspectives of healthcare systems. With healthcare being a global issue I wanted to get a different perspective outside of my personal experience within the NHS and have found this with the PHM masters. I have found the first modules extremely interesting and engaging and I look forward to the rest of my time during the PHM master’s degree! "With healthcare being a global issue I wanted to get a different perspective outside of my personal NHS experience. I have found this with the PHM master!"
Marlou Hokse
Bachelor Technical Medicine | PHM student

During my previous studies, technical medicine, I realised that the healthcare system in its current form faces many challenges outside of patient’s needs. I felt a passion grow to try and fix these issues from a broader perspective than technical medicine could offer. That's how I found PHM. This master’s really gives a background in different subjects, from health behaviour, to data analysis, to governance. This is what I especially enjoy, since it gives me the opportunity to look at an issue from different angles and combine the different specialities. I would really advise this master’s if you’d like to tackle overarching healthcare issues, using a broad view on healthcare. “PHM covers different subjects, from health behavior, to data analysis, to governance. That is what I especially enjoy about the master’s!”
