Admission requirements

Entry requirements for students from a Dutch research university

Students with one of the following academic bachelor's degrees from a university in the Netherlands are directly admissible to this master's programme: 

  • Medicine 
  • Biomedical Sciences 
  • Clinical Technology 
  • Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences 
  • Pharmacy 
  • Human Nutrition 
  • Health Sciences 
  • Veterinary 
  • Health and Society 
  • European Public Health 
  • Medical Natural Sciences 

Students with other Bachelor’s backgrounds than mentioned above are invited to submit a request for admission to the Board of Admissions of the Master’s. This request will be individually reviewed, based on the following criteria: 

Sufficient knowledge of the following domains: 

  • Medicine on pathophysiology and pathology (12 EC or equivalent) 
  • Quantitative methods: on research methodology, epidemiology and/or statistics (12 EC or equivalent) 

The Board of Admissions will assess whether your degree and background are sufficiently related to the level and content of the Dutch BSc degree in a health-related programme. There is no numerus fixus for Population Health Management; we do not have a limited number of places. All applicants who meet the criteria will be accepted. 

Entry requirements for students from a Dutch university of applied sciences

Students with other Bachelor’s backgrounds than mentioned above are invited to submit a request for admission to the Board of Admissions of the master’s. This request will be individually reviewed, based on the following criteria:

Sufficient knowledge of the following domains:

  • Medicine on pathophysiology and pathology (12 EC or equivalent)
  • Quantitative methods: on research methodology, epidemiology and/or statistics (12 EC or equivalent)

The Board of Admissions will assess whether your degree and background is sufficiently related to the level and content of the Dutch BSc degree in a health related programme. If you have deficiencies in your foreknowledge, the Admission Board can develop a tailormade bridging programme.

Entry requirements for students from a foreign research university

All other holders of a Bachelor’s degree in a health related programme from a foreign research university with a level similar to Dutch research universities are eligible for admission if the candidate has accumulated sufficient knowledge of at least the following domains:

  • Medicine on pathophysiology and pathology (12 EC or equivalent)
  • Quantitative methods: on research methodology, epidemiology and/or statistics (12 EC or equivalent)

The Board of Admissions will assess whether your degree and background are sufficiently related to the level and content of the Dutch BSc degree in a health related programme

Additional language requirements

English language proficiency

The following requirements apply:

  • IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall, with at least 6.0 for each separate component score.

For other accepted exams, including score equivalency tables and criteria for the accepted exams, refer to our English language proficiency requirements.

Note that English test results may not be more than two years old.

You do not have to submit an English proficiency test if you have completed your education in the USA, UK, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Canada (except French-taught programmes in Canada) Singapore, South-Africa or Malta, if you have obtained an English-taught International Baccalaureate™; if you have completed a Dutch VWO diploma or an English-taught degree at a Dutch research university or an English-taught bachelor’s degree from a Dutch university of applied sciences.

Students with an international diploma

Sufficient level of English is required for international students*, proven by one of the following qualifications:

  • IELTS, each test component must score a minimum of 6.0; with an average score of at least 6.5;
  • TOEFL, overall score 90 (internet based), each test component must score a minimum of 22  (internet based);
  • Cambridge C2 Proficiency (CPE) or C1 Advanced (CAE) 180, Cambridge component score 176

Students with a Dutch diploma
  • VWO level English or an English taught bachelor at a Dutch Research University
