We analyze the structures as optical emitters, finding uses for them in biosensing, including performing measurements on live cell interiors, and analysis of DNA hybridization dynamics. Secondly, we use the metal to create short range interaction schemes for the purpose of measuring distances on the nanometer scale. Finally, we find applications for DNA-metal hybrids in therapeutics, introducing a novel method to kill cancer cells which shows a unique potential for precision treatments.
