Tanja Hendriks is universitair docent aan het Institute of Security and Global Affairs en als research affiliate verbonden aan het African Studies Centre Leiden. Met een achtergrond in culturele antropologie, ontwikkelingsstudies en Afrikastudies richt haar etnografisch onderzoek zich op staatsbureaucratieën en humanitaire hulpverlening in rampgebieden. Haar empirische onderzoek is voornamelijk gericht op Malawi. In haar nieuwe onderzoeksproject ‘Taking a Risk on Disasters’ bestudeert zij toekomstgerichte vormen van rampenbestrijding.
