Lars Brummel werkt als universitair docent bij het Instituut Bestuurskunde. Zijn onderzoek richt zich op de legitimiteit van (semi-)publieke organisaties te midden van veranderingen in hun politiek-maatschappelijke context (bijv. door crises of politieke polarisatie). In het verleden deed hij onderzoek naar verantwoording van uitvoeringsorganisaties en publieke steun voor democratische innovaties. Hij combineert kwalitatieve en kwantitatieve (waaronder experimentele) methoden.
