Hanneke Palmen is als Universitair Hoofddocent (ius promovendi) verbonden aan het Instituut voor Strafrecht en Criminologie.
Hanneke Palmen is als Universitair Hoofddocent (ius promovendi) verbonden aan het Instituut voor Strafrecht en Criminologie. Na haar opleiding ontwikkelingspsychologie (UU), promoveerde Hanneke in 2009 bij het Instituut Pedagogiek en Onderwijskunde van de Universiteit Utrecht op haar proefschrift "Friendship and aggression in elementary school". Daarna was zij werkzaam bij het Nederlands Instituut voor Criminaliteit en Rechtshandhaving (NSCR), waar zij werkte bij het TransAM onderzoek, een longitudinaal panel onderzoek onder jongvolwassenen in Amsterdam.
Hanneke's onderzoeksinteresse gaat uit naar de sociale context van gedrag. Binnen het gevangenisonderzoek richtte zij zich bijvoorbeeld op het belang van het sociale netwerk tijdens en na detentie, en het ontvangen van (persoonlijk en professioneel) bezoek.
Haar expertise ligt bij het leiden van grootschalige longitudinale onderzoeksprojecten, zoals de Life in Custody Study en de Food in Custody Study, waarbinnen zij onderzoek deed naar het leef- en werkklimaat tijdens detentie.
Binnen deze studies begeleidde Hanneke als co-promotor en promotor diverse PhD projecten.
