Research
My research focuses on translational PK/PD and pharmacometrics, with the aim of understanding therapeutic exposure and response and translating experimental and clinical findings into improved treatment strategies.
A major focus of my research is central nervous system pharmacology and drug development. I am particularly interested in how physiological and disease-related factors influence drug distribution, target-site exposure, and treatment response in the CNS. My current work focuses primarily on CNS infections and brain tumors, including the impact of the blood-brain barrier, inflammation, and disease pathophysiology on CNS PK/PD. More broadly, I aim to develop quantitative and experimental approaches that can be applied across CNS diseases and therapeutic areas.
My second research area focuses on the PK/PD of novel therapeutic modalities. I am particularly interested in therapies with complex and dynamic interactions with biological systems that challenge conventional PK/PD concepts. My current work focuses on bacteriophage therapy using quantitative models to characterize interactions between therapeutic agents, pathogens, and the host and to support rational treatment design.
My research integrates experimental pharmacology with quantitative modeling approaches, including pharmacometrics, PBPK, QSP, and Bayesian methods, to support translation from preclinical research to clinical application.
Education
I coordinate the PK/PD course in the BSc programme in Bio-Pharmaceutical Sciences and teach pharmacometrics, PK/PD, and quantitative methods at bachelor's and master's levels.
Background
I obtained my BSc and MSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Peking University in 2014 and 2016, respectively, followed by a PhD from Amsterdam UMC (Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam) in 2021. I started as an Assistant Professor at Leiden University in 2021.
