Eduard Schmidt is Assistant Professor at the Institute of Public Administration. His research and teaching focuses on leadership, organizational change and creating public value, with a particular focus on organizations in the social domain and health care.

From 2014 to 2019, Eduard worked as a PhD candidate at the Institute of Public Administration, Leiden University. He defended his thesis titled "Perspectives on cutback management in public organisations: What public managers do" in January 2020. This project was funded by the Dutch Research Council’s Research Talent Scheme (NWO Onderzoekstalent). Supervisors were prof. dr. Sandra Groeneveld and prof. dr. Steven Van de Walle (Erasmus University Rotterdam). During his PhD, he was awarded the IRSPM best conference paper award in 2015 (together with prof. Sandra Groeneveld and prof. Steven Van de Walle) for a paper on change management and cutbacks, and in 2017 (together with prof. Sandra Groeneveld) for a paper on cutbacks and the glass cliff.
In 2017, he worked as a visiting researcher at the Public Governance Institute at the KU Leuven. In 2018, he became a research fellow at the Leiden Leadership Centre.
From July 2019 onwards, Eduard worked as a postdoctoral researcher on the interdisciplinary programme Population Health Governance. Since September 2020, he is an assistant professor at the Institute of Public Administration. His most recent research focuses on public management and leadership, in particular in the context of health care and the social domain. As a lecturer, he was (amongst other responsibilities) engaged in courses on organisational change, public management, multi-level
governance and management in international administrations, next to the supervision of students in writing their master thesis. Eduard´s current teaching is in the bachelor and master program of Public Administration, as well as in the interdisciplinary master programmes Population Health Management and Governance of Sustainability.
