Prof. dr. Arco Timmermans' teaching for the Institute of Public Administration is about public policy in the Netherlands and the EU, interest representation and public affairs, for example in the mastertrack Public Affairs. Arco Timmermans' research is on the dynamics of the public and political agenda. He analyzes how interest groups play the game of obtaining or avoiding public and political atention, how they form lobbycoalitions, and how they find access to venues for influence. This teaching and research work also is oriented to promoting the dialogue between research and practice, by guest lectures, master classes and commenting on news items.

Prof. dr. Arco Timmermans is Professor of Public Affairs at the Institute of Public Administration at the Faculty of Governance and Global Affairs. He obtained his PhD in the social and political sciences at the European University Institute in Florence. Previous positions he held were at the Delft University of Technology, the University of Twente, and the Montesquieu Institute in the Hague, where he was research director until 2014. His educational work is about public affairs and public policy. His research is on the development and professionalization of public affairs, the politics of attention in interest representation and advocacy, advisory roles of academics in the policy process, and the types of responses to lobbing by public institutions. This educational work and research also are oriented on promoting the dialogue between research and practice. For this he holds guest lectures, master classes and comments on news items.
Arco Timmermans has held the Special Chair in Public Affairs since September 2013. This chair was established by the Public Affairs Chair Foundation and is funded for 0.15 FTE by this foundation.
