Leiden archaeologist as president to byzantine world conference
Joanita Vroom has been appointed as president of the Society ‘Byzantine Studies Netherlands / Byzantijnse Studies Nederland’, the Dutch branch of the ‘International Association of Byzantine Studies / Association Internationale des Études Byzantines’ (AIEB).
This worldwide organization brings together all scholars who are active in research on the Byzantine Empire. From 1924 onwards, these Byzantinists convene every 4 years in a large international conference in order to discuss the latest developments in their academic discipline, and promote Byzantine studies. As president of Byzantine Studies Netherlands, Joanita Vroom will represent the Dutch Byzantinists at the upcoming 23rd International Congress of Byzantine Studies of the AIEB, which will take place between 21-08 and 27-08 in Belgrade, Serbia.
The association ‘Byzantine Studies Netherlands / Byzantijnse Studies Nederland’ offers a meeting place for every student or scholar who carries out research on Byzantium, and promotes their interests, both nationally and internationally.
