Leiden Language Modeling Center
The LLMC is a Leiden-based centre of expertise that applies knowledge of language and AI to ensure the responsible, transparent and effective use of language models.
Current AI is primarily defined by large language models (LLMs). These models learn from language and perform tasks based on text instructions. The key role that linguistics plays in LLMs has become more evident, focusing on analysing their behaviour and enhancing communication between humans and these models.
This is why the Leiden-based LLMC was established as a centre of expertise for AI LLMs. Through collaborations with partners such as TNO, the LLMC focuses on a wide range of scientific and practical issues surrounding LLMs.
In doing so, knowledge is developed within the humanities, particularly in applied and theoretical linguistics, and utilised by the LLMC. The LLMC is deeply embedded within Leiden University and as such works together with various faculties of the university.
Together with students
The LLMC is open to all students. Students gain experience by working on a wide range of challenging topics on assignments set by stakeholders from the business and governmental sectors as well as by other knowledge institutions.
