Mathematics & High-Tech Innovation

Mathematics is the language of science and technology, and modern industrial innovation would be impossible without the development and application of sophisticated mathematical techniques. The master’s specialisation High-Tech Innovation gives you the chance to combine top-level mathematics with interdisciplinary courses in physics, chemistry or astronomy and hands-on industrial experience. PLEASE NOTE: This is a new specialisation that you can choose as of September 2026.

What does this master’s programme entail?

This master’s programme combines a mathematics component with an interdisciplinary High-Tech Innovation component.  In the mathematics component you will follow courses and complete a research project within the Mathematical Institute, including lecture courses from the national Mastermath programme.  In the High-Tech Innovation component you will follow interdisciplinary courses from physics, chemistry, astronomy or computer science and complete an industrial placement with a company or applied research institute.  This programme prepares you for a career in which your mathematics contributes to innovation in high-tech sectors such as semiconductor development and precision instrumentation.
