Required documents
Along with your application, you will need to submit a variety of documents, including your transcript of results. Your previous education determines which menu in uSis (the online application portal of Leiden University) you have to use. Also see the infographic on the right for more information.
Did you obtain an international diploma? Then please upload the following documents in the uSis-submenu Admission (under Application Study Programme):
- Valid passport or European ID card
- Dutch residence permit (if applicable)
- CV (résumé)
- Diplomas and transcripts:
- Digital copies are required initially. Once you have been admitted, you will receive instructions on how to submit certified copies to the Admissions Office.
- Documents must be in the original language and accompanied by official translations if they are not in English, Dutch, German or French.
- If you have not yet completed your study programme, state your expected graduation date and submit copies of all transcripts obtained to date.
- Submit transcripts from any uncompleted study programmes.
- International Baccalaureate students must submit their transcript with IB grades obtained so far, at least containing their first year’s final grades. In addition, IB students are advised to also submit their predicted grades. We cannot accept transcripts with predicted grades only.
- Language test results. It is possible but not advised to submit your results after the deadline.
Are your currently in 6 VWO*
Upload the following documents in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement (under Application Study Programme) before January 31 2024:
- The confirmation of the submitted Online Form. The link to the Online Form can be found in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement. Note: You must save the confirmation as PDF and upload this document in the online portal.
- Your transition report from 5 VWO to 6 VWO. You must use this format.
- Ask your current educational institution to fill in the PDF digitally, and then print and sign the document.
- It is important that your educational institution fills in all the grades of your 5 VWO transition report for the subjects in which you are taking your final exams. They should not fill in previously completed courses (for example, 3 VWO courses). Your educational institution may also not include grades obtained in 6 VWO. Resits of 5 VWO subjects may be included, provided they fall under the VWO transition report.
- Grades should be written with one decimal behind the decimal point.

You can submit your transition report from 5 VWO to 6 VWO starting from 1 October 2023. Make sure to submit your application as soon as possible so that you will know well in advance whether your application is complete and that you can participate in the selection process. You must submit all the documents before 31 January 2024 23:59 CET at the latest.
Have you already obtained your VWO-diploma*
Upload the following documents in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement (under Application Study Programme) before January 31 2024:
- The confirmation of the submitted Online Form. The link to the Online Form can be found in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement. Note: You must save the confirmation as PDF and upload this document in the online portal.
- The final transcript from your VWO-diploma.
You can submit one of the following documents:- the extract from the DUO diplomaregister which clearly mentions all obtained courses and grades (with 1 decimal); or
- the final transcript from the VWO-diploma, issued and signed by a recognized institute of secondary education, including the date.
Did you – in addition to your VWO – participate in the pre-University College of Leiden University? Then please upload evidence of your participation in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement.
You can submit your final transcript from the VWO-diploma starting from 1 October 2023. Make sure to submit your application as soon as possible so that you will know well in advance whether your application is complete and that you can participate in the selection process. You must submit all the documents before 31 January 2024 23:59 CET at the latest.
* This isn't the case for students with a VWO-diploma obtained in Aruba, Saint Martin and Curaçao and students with a VWO-diploma obtained before 10-10-2010 in Bonaire, Saint Eustatius and Saba. In this case you need to follow the instructions for an international diploma.
Did you obtain a propaedeuse from a Dutch Research University (WO) or a full Bachelor/Master diploma from a Dutch institute of higher education? Then please upload the following documents in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement (under Application Study Programme):
- The confirmation of the submitted Online Form. The link to the Online Form can be found in the uSis-submenu Selection & Placement. Note: You must save the confirmation as PDF and upload this document in the online portal.
- The final transcript of your high school diploma.
You can submit one of the following documents:- the extract from the DUO diplomaregister which clearly mentions all obtained courses and grades (with 1 decimal); or
- the final transcript from the VWO-diploma, issued and signed by a recognized institute of education, including the date.
Did you obtain an propaedeutical diploma or associate degree from a Dutch University of Applied Sciences (HBO) or do you qualify for the Colloquium Doctum? Then please upload the following documents in the uSis-submenu Admission (under Application Study Programme):
- Valid passport or European ID card
- Dutch residence permit (if applicable)
- CV (résumé)
- Diplomas and transcripts:

You can submit one of the following documents:- the extract from the DUO diplomaregister which clearly mentions all obtained courses and grades (with 1 decimal); or
- the final transcript from your high school diploma or MBO, issued and signed by a recognized institute of education, including the date.
Do you have a disability and do you - as a result of your disability - need extra time for the Online Assessment (see Selection & Placement)? Then you can submit a request for extra time by submitting the Disability Form (incl. proof of a disability such as a doctor's note). The proof of disability documents must be in Dutch, English, French or German, or accompanied by an official translation.
Note: The deadline to submit this form is 31 January 2024.
