Move-In Days
The Move-In Days will take place on 15-16 August 2026. In order to prepare yourself for your Move-In Day, we want to share with you some more info, and what to expect before this date. DUWO - our student housing partner that deals with LUC's housing will be in touch with you in the summer to start arranging housing contracts. You will sign your contract and receive your room number and floor during the summer. On your Move-In Day you will pick up your keys.
Contract
What you can expect from this process is the following:
- You will receive an allocated check-in day and time via email through housing@luc.leidenuniv.nl. Please note that you will not be able to move in anytime beforehand nor can you select a day yourself.
- You will receive your log-in details for the DUWO environment from DUWO together with all necessary information on how to sign your rent agreement and the first month rent. You will receive and sign your rent agreement online. (If you have applied using your school email please send us another email where this contract can be sent to).
- Keys will be distributed by DUWO during your assigned time slot.
During Move-In Days, you will receive a Bed Linen package:
Bed Linen package
A bed linen package is supplied by DUWO in a shopper that can be used as a laundry bag afterwards. This is part of your housing contract, and all students will receive it. Find the list of items included in the package here.
LU-cards
All LU students need an active LU-card to access Leiden University premises, including your residential floor at AvB. You must for your LU card as soon as you are admitted to LUC. You can apply for your LU card here.
If you do not have a Dutch address, you can send your card to LUC:
YOUR NAME
ATTN: Admissions office
Leiden University College The Hague
Anna van Buerenplein, 301
2595 DG The Hague
We recommend doing so as soon as you are admitted to LUC. You’ll then be able to pick the card at LUC’s Admissions office during Introduction Week (Monday-Friday).
To ensure a smooth arrival, during the Move-in Days weekend, you will be able to access your accommodation floor without an LU card.
Logistics of The Day
Your studio apartments will be fully furnished, and will contain all the necessities, such as a bed, desk, wardrobe and more. More detailed information can be found here.
However, if you plan to bring other items from home, especially big furniture, we recommend for you to plan to do this at a later date after Intro Week. During your check-in time, you will only have 1 hour to park at the square in-front of LUC. It will be very busy, and therefore access to the lifts will be limited. There will be plenty of time for you to pimp up your apartments after this day.
Practical Information
Please don’t bring bulky items on Move-in Days! To avoid long elevator wait times, bring only the essentials on Move-in Day and move heavier items such as furniture on another day. Your room already includes all the essential furniture you need.
If you plan to bring additional items from home, especially larger furniture, you can do so later, after Intro Week.
The square in front of the building can only be used for unloading by a limited number of cars, and only for a short time.
Because LUC is located next to the Dutch House of Representatives, we must register your car and driver in an online portal in advance. This allows the security guards at the entrance to open the barriers for your vehicle. Please note that registration is not possible on weekends, as we need time to inform the guards in advance.
There are two obstacles. One is the barriers of the House of Representatives and the other one is the retractable traffic bollards of the Municipality.
Obstacle 1: Barriers of the House of Representatives
To gain access at the barrier, you must register with LUC by sending an email to the LUC Information Desk. Information desk will then register your car and driver with the security and they will open the barriers for you. Information required;
- Your name
- Phone number
- Date of arrival
- Name of the driver (if different from the person requesting access)
- License plate number
- Who is your visit in reference to?
- What is the reason for your visit?
Obstacle 2: Retractable traffic bollards of the Municipality
This layer of access is NOT handled by LUC. You need to apply for a permit (a physical card needs to be picked up at the Municipality of The Hague) to lower those traffic bollards. Good to know, the traffic bollards lower automatically during these times (subject to change):
Monday to Friday: 5:00 – 7:00 AM and 10:00-11.30 AM
Saturday and Sunday: 6.00-11.30 AM
If you can enter within these times, you do not have to apply for a permit. You can enter within these times and leave afterwards. You still have to follow step one, and register via Information desk to the barriers of the House of Representatives.
IMPORTANT. If you must arrive outside of the opening hours of the traffic bollards, do not forget to request an exemption at the Municipality. Please, be aware to apply at least 6 working days in advance.
Plan your journey with public transportation in the Netherlands via 9292.nl. It includes the schedules for trains, trams, metros, and busses.
Questions about accessing the square can be directed at the LUC info desk: info@luc.leidenuniv.nl.
