Martin Sievert bestudeert interacties tussen burgers en staten en human resource management in de publieke sector. Zijn onderzoeksagenda omvat zowel publiek management als algemeen managementonderzoek. Momenteel richten zijn projecten zich op symbolische representatie, organisatorische legitimiteit, aanwerving in de publieke sector, persoon-omgeving misfit, en coproductie. Zijn onderzoek maakt gebruik van een breed scala aan methodologische benaderingen, met een sterke focus op experimentele methoden.
