Alp Yenen is universitair docent aan het Leiden University Institute for Area Studies. Met onderzoek richt hij zich voornamelijk op de politieke geschiedenis van het moderne Turkije en het Midden-Oosten. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de overgang naar de 20e eeuw, de Eerste Wereldoorlog, het interbellum en de Koude Oorlog. Daarnaast geeft hij commentaar op en adviseert hij over de hedendaagse politiek in Turkije.
