Wilco van Dijk is professor Economic Psychology and its applications and chair of the unit Social, Economic and Organisational Psychology. He is also director of the Knowledge Centre Psychology and Economic Behaviour.

Wilco van Dijk obtained his PhD at University of Amsterdam in 1999. After receiving his PhD degree, he worked at the VU University Amsterdam, and as of 2009, he works at the unit of Social, Economic and Organisational Psychology of Leiden University. From 2014 to 2022, Wilco van Dijk was professor (by special appointment) Psychological Determinants of Economic Decision Making (in collaboration with the Nibud). In the academic year 2019/2020 he was a fellow of the NIAS (Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study). As of 2022, he is professor Economic Psychology and its applications. In addition, he is director of the Knowledge Centre Psychology and Economic Behaviour.

Research

In his current research, Wilco van Dijk focuses on the causes and consequences of financial stress and combines laboratory studies with (experimental) field studies. In the Knowledge Centre his emphasis is on applying behavioural insights to societal questions.
