Wilco van Dijk
Professor Economic Psychology and Its Applications
Wilco van Dijk is professor Economic Psychology and its applications and director of the Knowledge Centre Psychology and Economic Behaviour.
Wilco van Dijk studied Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. He graduated in 1994 and obtained his PhD at the same University in 1999. After receiving his PhD degree, he worked at the VU University Amsterdam, and as of 2009, he works at the departmental unit of Social, Economic and Organisational Psychology of Leiden University. From 2014 to 2022 he was professor (by special appointment) Psychological Determinants of Economic Decision Making. This chair was a collaboration of the Leiden University with the National Institute for Family Finance Information (Nibud). Since 2022, he is professor Economic Psychology and its applications. In addition, he is director of the Knowledge Centre Psychology and Economic Behaviour (www.kcpeg.nl).
In his current research, Wilco van Dijk focuses on the causes and consequences of financial stress and combines laboratory studies with (experimental) field studies. In the Knowledge Centre his emphasis is on applying Behavioural insights. Whereby the development and testing of behavioural interventions in the context of economic choices plays an important role.
