In 2014 Wilco van Dijk was appointed as a Professor Psychological Determinants of Economic Decision Making, a chair supported by the National Institute for Family Finance Information (Nibud).
Short CV
Wilco van Dijk studied Social Psychology at the University of Amsterdam. He graduated in 1994 and obtained his PhD at the same University in 1999. After receiving his PhD degree, he worked at the VU University Amsterdam, and as of 2009, he works at the departmental unit of Social, Economic and Organisational Psychology of Leiden University. In 2014, he was specially appointed as professor of Psychological Determinants of Economic Decision Making. This chair is a collaboration of the Leiden University with the National Institute for Family Finance Information (Nibud). Since 1 January 2020 he is also director of the Knowledge Centre Psychology and Economic Behaviour (www.kcpeg.nl).
Research
In his current research, Wilco van Dijk mainly focuses on the impact of financial stress on economic decision making, whereby he combines laboratory research with (experimental) field studies. In the Knowledge Centre Psychology and Economic Behaviour his emphasis is on applying Behavioural insights. Whereby the development and testing of behavioural interventions in the context of economic choices.
