Tanya is a PhD researcher-activist active in the field of Open Science. Her PhD research focuses on the political economic factors that advance or hinder the progress of the Open Research Information movement. Tanya received the Best Visual Design Poster Award at the Open Science Festival 2025 for presenting her PhD research poster, ‘Advancing the Movement of Open Research Information in the Era of Platform Capitalism’. She was also involved in the Science Europe tender project for Study on Open Science and Research Assessment (2025) and OS-NL tender project to develop an Open Science Monitoring Framework (2025-2026).
Besides her PhD project, Tanya is the lead applicant on initiative titled ‘Recognising the Diversity of PhD Talents: Embedding Open Science into PhD Trajectories’, which explores the ways to expand the range of activities and outputs that should be formally recognised and rewarded within a PhD trajectory. The initiative has been presented at a Coimbra Group meeting, featured as a session in the Academia in Motion 2026 symposium, and received an Open Science Meetings Grant in 2026. Tanya also serves on the board of the national PhD interest group, Promovendi Netwerk Nederland (PNN), where she visits all research universities and university medical centers throughout the Netherlands to collaboratively rethink the assessment of PhD trajectories. This board role is supported by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science.
In her previous roles, Tanya has collaborated with Indonesia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ministry of Development Planning, among others. Notable projects include evaluating Indonesia's 2023 economic diplomacy amidst global polycrises, devising strategies for Indonesia's successful bid for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council (2019-2020), and contributing to the preparation for Indonesia's 2022 Group of 20 (G20) Presidency.
