Prof. Sarah de Rijcke is Rector Magnificus on the Executive Board of Leiden University. Her responsibilities include:

Sarah de Rijcke is Professor of Science, Technology & Innovation Studies at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences. She was previously Dean of the same faculty and Scientific Director of the Centre for Science and Technology Studies (CWTS).

De Rijcke completed her doctorate (cum laude) in Groningen and has worked in Leiden since 2011. As a professor, she pursues a strong interdisciplinary approach to the question of how scientific quality is achieved and what role science plays in society. She is an internationally recognised expert on research evaluation, open science and university governance. As Rector, she is committed to fostering a cohesive and accessible academic culture, a high level of quality and cross-border collaboration in education and research.

In addition to the role of Rector, De Rijcke holds several other leadership roles, both within and outside the university. For example, she is the driving force behind Academia in Motion, the university programme to better recognise and reward staff and promote open science. She is also a member of the Dutch UNESCO Commission and has extensive international experience on the advisory boards of major research funders, policy bodies and metascience consortia.
