Professional experience

Kees Musters is interested in developments in nature, due to human activities. Within this framework, he is investigating how developments in nature can be described, how people value nature, how human activities affect nature, and how knowledge in these fields can lead to efficient nature conservation policies. He studied the opportunities for sustainable development in Dutch rural areas. Together with Hans de Graaf, he wrote at thesis on this subject (‘Opportunities for Sustainable Development. Theory, Methods, and Regional Applications’). Recently, he has been focusing on the question how public participation can be brought about in operationalising ‘biodiversity’. And he is working on nature conservation on modern, intensive dairy farms.
