Sustainability
How do we shape a climate-resilient future? Researchers in Leiden work together to build a sustainable society.
At the leading Centre for Environmental Sciences in Leiden, researchers analyse the full environmental impacts of technologies and products. This includes not only CO₂ emissions and water consumption, but also factors such as raw material use and waste streams. This knowledge contributes to solutions centred on sustainability and helps to reduce environmental impact in a structural way.
In addition, researchers across a wide range of disciplines are working on the breakthroughs of tomorrow – from the development of new materials and energy-efficient computers to innovative energy sources. Together, these efforts lay the foundations for a more sustainable society.
From growth to well-being
How do you measure progress in a sustainable society? The WISE Horizons project shapes the transition to a new economic paradigm centred on well-being, inclusion and sustainability.
